I just completed the upgrade. It seems to work now. :-0

While upgrading I followed the LFS book, without patching the perl 
script - it wasn't necessary.
I compiled the glibc and made tests as ordinary user.
The only test which failed was the posix/annexc (mentioned in the LFS 
book). I had also the crypt/sha512c-test time-out, but it passed when I 
set the env variable: TIMEOUTFACTOR=10 (probably more than enough).
Then I went to the single user mode and made install and the localedefs 
(as in the LFS book).
