Problem building clfs for sparc < v8

Hi, i'm following CLFS-SVN-20051205-Sparc.

In section 6.3.1 Installation of Binutils there are instruction to
install the TLS patch to use NTPL but there is no such patch in the
patch list (Sections 3.4 and 3.5):

*** start of quote ***
This patch will add TLS support to Sparc, this will allow us to use NPTL:

patch -Np1 -i ../binutils-2.16.1-sparc_tls-1.patch
*** end of quote ***

Also earlier in the book is written that sparc < v8 does not support
NPTL, do i need this patch ? I tried without and I got the following
error message:

$ make configure-host
mkdir -p -- ./libiberty

If you meant to cross compile, use `--host'.

The version of the book being used (in this case CLFS-SVN-20051205)

I'm building on: Ubuntu, Breezy Badger

uname -a: Linux arpinf-tp2 2.6.12-10-686 #1 Fri Nov 18 12:09:04 UTC 2005
i686 GNU/Linux

I also noticed that for other arch 32 builds (x86, ppc and mips) there
is a "--build=${LFS_HOST}" parameter that is not there for sparc or
sparcv8, adding it to the configure command did not help.
