I tested the sed thingie, and it works fine. Until someone suggests a better way to do this, let's consider it case closed.

Being a Perl script, it's not installed since Perl is not present.

Simple work-around could be something like:

sed -e 's|$(PERL)|/usr/bin/perl|' ../glibc-2.2.1/malloc/Makefile > tmp~ &&
mv tmp~ ../glibc-2.2.1/malloc/Makefile

near the current sed. 

But anyway, key word is "glibc-2.2.1/malloc/Makefile"
