Massive stripping and X11

You can strip the stuff in /usr/X11R6/{bin lib} but not the libraries that
are hidden above lib.  See the XFree86.0.log; it is loading symbols
from static libraries.  Perhaps dynamic libraries were not available
when X was designed.
