OK, thanks for that clarification. To be able to handle both
cases at once, maybe the bootscript coud be modified like that :
case "1" in
echo -n "Bringing up the eth0 interface..."
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 $IP broadcast $BROADCAST netmask $NETMASK
if [ "$GATEWAY" != "" ]; then
echo -n "Setting up routing for eth0 interface..."
/sbin/route add default gw $GATEWAY metric 1
