proftpd

It works.
But I'm sure that before I reinstalled LFS my proftpd server was working
fine, and the client was set to passive mode. So any idea why it doesn't
work now?
I'm pretty sure that it's got something to do with the server since I didn't
change anything in the client.

This is because you try to upload in passive mode.

The shell ftp command in some serups requires '-A' be specified to force
active mode.
Most every ftp client can be set to active or passive mode.

Passive mode is mainly useful when you're talking to an FTP server through a
firewall, at least to me.
