afaik, bash reads .bash_profile when started as login shell and .bashrc
when started from the command line with "bash".
you could .bashrc make a link to .bash_profile.
if you execute a script like
the CFLAGS var will only be exported to the subshell.
not to the shell level above.
hope i put it right together (it's about 6:30 am now, and i didn't sleep
the whole nite).
