findutils-patch failed

That's a mistake in the book. You're supposed to ungzip the patch file
first, then apply it with:
patch -Np1 ../findutils-4.1.patch

This must be done with every patch file (ungzip first, then apply the
patch and the filename must be without the .gz suffix)

Yes it does.

> 2. what´s the findutils-4.1-fixed.tar.gz

It's the patched version of findutils. The *-fixed package are going to
be deleted when 2.4 is released and replaced by patch files you can
download. Since you already download the original version you might as
well download a patch file instead of a full patched pacakge. Saves a
lot of bandwidth.
