the ftp site is bandwidth limited (by software) to 128k. if there are 5
people downloading at the same time, this bandwidth is split 5 ways (or
25kbit per connection). the download indicator on netscape is in KB, so
in this example, it would show 3.2KB. since irc, news access, http, rsync
and email list servers are all running on the same server, you may get
even less than this.
the bandwidth limiting was done to get ftp users to go to the mirror sites
- ftp is a _major_ bandwidth hog, especially since ftp users will try to
download lots of files at once.
if you have a lot to download, check the mirrors page on
i will probably put a notice on the ftp site about the bandwidth limiting
and the mirror sites.
