make LDFLAGS=-static gives error "undefined reference to `getloadavg'"

All points to a problem with your static C library which seems to be missing 
things. Can you install a package called Glibc-dev on your Debian or RedHat ? 
And, which Glibc versions do your starting distribution's use?
