um . . . I found a missing colon in inittab for the system initiation
directive which explains the missing field. Getting new ugly stuff now.
Will track down messages and see if I can clean up from here.

Beginning of new plea for help. Can be ignored. Thanx.

OK, I copied the bootscript files, though whitespace should be ignored.

Reading "The Linux System Administrators' Guide" at
http://linuxdoc.org/LDP/sag/book1.html it gives this example from the
inittab file structure section:
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 9600 tty1

In the 3rd Edition of Running Linux (O'Reilly) it gives this example:
c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty1

The format structure is code:runlevels:action:command

I cp /lfs/etc/inittab onto a floppy then cut/paste the file here.

# Begin /etc/inittab

l0:0:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 0
l1:S1:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 1
l2:2:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 2
l3:3:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 3
l4:4:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 4
l5:5:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 5
l6:6:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 6

ca:12345:ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t1 -a -r now

1:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty /dev/tty1 9600
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty /dev/tty2 9600
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty /dev/tty3 9600
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty /dev/tty4 9600
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty /dev/tty5 9600
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty /dev/tty6 9600

# End /etc/inittab
I think, therefore, ken_i_m
