Yes, use --host on any configure script you can, alllthough use
-march=i486 and -mcpu=486 also.

As long as you can bootup with a floppy and get the tarball onto the
486, it's a simple as partitioning and formatting, untarring the tarball
and running lilo, bang reboot.
