Are you doing this from a console terminal or from an xterm? if the
shell isn't a login it doesn't read ~/.profile, ~/.bash_login,
~/.bash_profile, but it will read ~/.bashrc

What i would suggest is making a symbolic link from all of those into
one, less problems in the long run.

btw, you don't really have to worry about LD_LIBRARY_PATH, just make
sure that it is in /etc/ld.so.conf and rerun ldconfig.
