What I had said is true in most cases, including your own case (yours
would give 2000200120022003..., etc.).

i.e.

#include <iostream.h>

void main (void) {

   int y2k = 2000;
 
   if (2000 == y2k++) {
      cout << "y2k is 2000\n";
   } else {
      cout << "y2k is not 2000!\n";
   }

   cout << "y2k after conditional is " << y2k << "\n";

Output is:

---------------------------------------------------
y2k is 2000
y2k after conditional is 2001
