I assume you're referring to Section 4.1 (thks for the pointer, BTW -- I
never noticed it before 8-).

I generally agree with what's said in there, except that I believe
non-bashisms (eg. most user-specific environment variables) should go in
~/.profile, and ~/.bash_profile should source ~/.profile if it exists.
This ensures that interactive-shell-as-"sh" at least has the important
stuff set properly.
