I`ve read that page, i tried "dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/dev/null bs=1024k 
count=768" and repeated make, it always stops at the same position.
according to the Sig11 FAQ it seems to be a software problem.

btw: kernel compiling runs fine.

any other ideas?
