Sh-utils fails

Hello,

I am attempting to build 3.0-pre4.

My base system is:
Mandrake 7.2
gcc 2.95.3
Glibc 2.1.3

I was flying along and didn't notice this error (distractions) until
attempting to
chroot into the new environment where it became apparent that I was missing
the
/bin/env

I went back and looked closely at the instillation of Sh-utils. I have
searched the
archives and attempted to compile both statically and dynamically but the
result is
identical.

This looks suspicious to me......

creating Makefile
creating doc/Makefile
creating intl/Makefile
creating lib/Makefile
creating man/Makefile
creating m4/Makefile
creating po/Makefile.in
creating src/Makefile
creating tests/Makefile

creating tests/test/Makefile
sed: can't read ./tests/test/Makefile.in: No such file or directory
creating config.h
linking ./intl/libgettext.h to intl/libintl.h

--all of the makefiles which cannot be read were created as empty files.

this is followed by a hundred or so lines before it finally fails below

"nothing can be done for 'all'" seems to be a common complaint.

Any ideas? Have I messed up something earlier? Is my Mandrake instillation
missing something?

Thanks for your help,
Craig
