gerard:~/web$ uptime
  2:58pm  up 6 days,  2:22,  0 users,  load average: 0.21, 0.12, 0.09

no problems at all.

uptime won't run properly if during sh-util's compilation proc isn't mounted 
or wtmp/utmp is missing. Try recompiling again and make sure proc is mounted.
