This is not cross-compiling in any strict sense of the word, since
you are compiling for the same platform.
Basically what you want to do is to give "--host=i586-pc-linux-gnu"
as a parameter to all ./configure scripts, and make sure that you
don't give any "-march=i686" to the compiler.
