i am attempting the second install of bash, from within the ch'rooted enviroment.
during the make, it seems to go fine until i get the following error:

mkbuiltins: ./ulimit.def: skipping zero-length file
mkbuiltins: ./umask.def: skipping zero-length file
mkbuiltins: ./wait.def: skipping zero-length file
mkbuiltins: ./reserved.def: skipping zero-length file
mkbuiltins: ./pushd.def: skipping zero-length file
mkbuiltins: ./shopt.def: skipping zero-length file
mkbuiltins: ./printf.def: skipping zero-length file
mkbuiltins: ./complete.def: skipping zero-length file
make[1]: *** [builtext.h] Segmentation fault (core dumped)
make[1]: *** Deleting file `builtext.h'
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/bash-2.04/builtins'
make: *** [builtins/builtext.h] Error 1

that is actually just the tail-end of the message, it says the same thing about every .def file in the /builtins directory. i figured you didn't need to see the same thing thirty times.
if you think seeing the full message will help, just ask.

all help is greatly appreciated.
