I think that might have something todo with the problem I had while
configuring make - most programs (awk, cat, gzip, ...) were not found
then.

I've posted that to the list yesterday - I had the problem with
man-1.5i.

I suggest to try re-installing the man-command as described in the book
- and have a look at the output of the "configure -d".
