Newbie Problem: Keyboard "return" not working at logout

My thougts exactly (ctrl-j in particular).  Maybe even making use of the
kernel's sysrq key commands would be useful.  Try alt-sysrq-r for instance.
And if that doesn't work, you can use the others to bring you system down
at least somewhat nicely.
