why gcc-3.1?

Here's a benchmark page comparing GCC3, GCC3.1 and intel's compiler.

This shows some GCC3.1 improvement over GCC3.0. But it's a benchmark
page so it may be meaningless.

That remark is bunk.  I didn't say or imply that it had to benefit _me_.
If 
it benefits you, then please spell out those benefits.
