Well, a couple of people actualy uses it "after".
The big thing is that FHS (file hyerarchy standards) say that this directory
tree should exist on a new system. (Although LFS does not respect FHS at 100%
iirc but still try to respect most of it.)
So the real question would be wether to break some FHS compliance or keep it
In the meantime, if you don't like /opt and its subdirectories, just get rid
of it for yourself. ;)
