no, grub isnt more error tolerant. at least I see no way that it could
be viewed as such.

the only problem LILO has is if the initial setup is wrong. grub has the
same problem.

once lilo is installed, unless you are daft enough to have not set it up
with a rescue kernel, you are fine.
