Fun with glibc-2.3

Hi

Experimenting with the test release of glibc-2.2.94.

Bash started segfaulting the moment I installed the new glibc inside
the chroot.

This appears to be a recurrence of the old "NSS library problem"

http://sources.redhat.com/ml/libc-alpha/2002-09/msg00438.html

http://sources.redhat.com/glibc/glibc-faq.html#s-2.22

But I don't think we will be able to use the solution that LFS has used
in the past of just copying over the old NSS libs from the host distro.
This is because the sonames are the same.

Here is the relevant line of strace output:-

open("/lib/libnss_compat.so.2", O_RDONLY) = 3

Current glibc-2.2.5 system:-
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root        50912 Aug 25 20:20 libnss_compat-2.2.5.so
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           22 Aug 25 20:20 libnss_compat.so.2 -> libnss_compat-2.2.5.so

New glibc-2.2.94 system:-
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root       265395 Sep 22 13:15 libnss_compat-2.2.94.so
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           23 Sep 22 13:15 libnss_compat.so.2 -> libnss_compat-2.2.94.so

We will prolly have to come up with something a bit more creative.

Greg
