No, I was suggesting to program this into the xml:

  if  $package-current-version != $package-checked-version  then:
          print "Last checked for version",$package-checked-version
  fi

or however you do that in xml stylesheets.  You then only have to 
maintain somewhere at the beginning of the xml sources a list of 
current-versions and checked-versions, just like it is done now.
