OK, here it is. It can handle follwing ld versions:
2.13
2.13.1
2.13.1.2
2.13.1.2.3
2.13.1.2.3.4
...
2.13.1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10......

The the number of groups are >=2 and the number of digits per group has to be
<=2 and >=1

So these ones are invalid for example:

2
2.123
2.13.b

I don't know whether we are using binutils 2.13.2.1 or not but this patch 
could help LFS without gcc 3.2.2.
