patches for the particular version. The description of the patch would 
be contained in the patch file itself. That way it would be very easy to 
maintain.

The only requirement should be that the patch should apply cleanly (no 
offsets or fuzz) to the officially released source, should have an 
easily understable file name, should have a proper description, and 
attribute the source for the patch.
