I have used Slackware 8.1, and had All the 26 XPASS`s
I did however, have the same problem as you with Red Hat 8.0. That is why I went out of the way to use Slackware 8.1
And that was when I was going by the Pure-LFS hint at the time. End result...The best LFS system yet.
