Unless, of course, we 'libtoolize --force' the package.

But then we have to re-run aclocal et al.  And we all know 
auto{conf,make} sucks for backwards compatibility, so then we 
might have to hack on the configure.{ac,in} scripts on a 
case-by-case basis.

Damn. :(
