I do this all the time. After everything that even *MIGHT* install a
lib, I promptly `rm -f' all the *.la files lying around. The only
downside is that sometimes a lib doesn't link against what it needs, and
instead depends on libtool to handle all the deps, but that gives me a
chance to make sure everything has all the proper deps linked in.
