Except that that way, you have a redundant echo and a redundant process
substitution...

Fake it as just plain "uname -m" instead.  ;-)

(There could actually be differences if uname -m printed anything with
whitespace in it, but it doesn't.)

And this is -hackers country, but if we get rid of util-linux in ch. 5,
then we won't need one of the NPTL patches either...
