IMHO, a format like:

The {em}What to do on errors{/em}{sup}1{/sup} hint might give you some ideas 
for your troubleshooting.
[...]

1. http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/hints/downloads/files/errors.txt

(where the tags mean their HTML equivalents)

would be great, but I suppose it would require some XML tweaking.
