TeX is a typesetting language.  It is kind of like HTML, only it's
primary purpose is to make nice book outputs rather than nice web
outputs.   It has an extension LaTeX which is the absolute best way to
write math papers.  It may be used in some of the doc gen stuff too,
I'm not sure.
