Hello,
I am afraid that LFS-6.3 will be obsolete even before release. Details
follow.
I have tried to build the x86_64 LiveCD from Debian Lenny (x86
userspace, but with 64-bit kernel, 64-bit capable compiler, and with
64-bit libs installed). This fails, because the "ld" program that is
built as a part of Binutils Pass 1 doesn't even recognze the format of
the /lib64/libc.so.6 file (which is a symlink to libc-2.6.so). The same
is true if I boot the existing (as in: pre-downloaded binary) x86_64
LiveCD, build Binutils-2.17 there and attempt to link a test object file
against Debian's glibc.
So IMHO, Binutils should be upgraded to the HJL version at least on x86_64.
Currently I am downloading the new binutils from
http://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/devel/binutils/binutils-2.17.50.0.18.tar.bz2.
I will report my furter progress here.
