I'm still curious what your results would be if you tried the 
instructions in the jh branch. You could even try with the current LFS 
versions and ignore the changes necessary to work with Glibc-2.6.1 and 
GCC-4.2.1, like the futimens seds for coreutils and gzip and the 
makedepend.SH sed in perl.
