and here I was thinking that a note that bison is required to be
installed if using PCLinuxOS as host would be sufficient. The distro
does fine by adding their package.

Even the livecd of PCLinuxOS will allow you to install bison into the os
and build with it.
[ though building with the bloaty PCLinuxOS as livecd means you need a
lot of ram or large swap partition. ]
