Thinking on this some, and reading through old posts, I came across this
one from Craig Jackson:

I think Craig made some valid points which are still valid now, perhaps
even more so, given that man-power/activity in LFS and all its related
projects is low these days. It's picking up somewhat, but it's still
low. From a brief conversation with Joe Ciccone not too long ago, I
gather CLFS is in a similar boat.
Can we resolve any actual differences between the projects (and
individuals making up the projects) and put aside any perceived disputes
and work together in a more unified manner again? If so, what are we
willing to do to be more unified? What possibilities are there?
