Hi Rob,
I would love to see what you and Robert C. have suggested happen.
Especially because of lack of resources these days, I think it could be
very useful to integrate the projects, or, at least, merge them somewhat
more.
The issues you'll face trying to make this happen however, are social
issues, and not technical ones. Unfortunately, there are (apparently)
deep rifts. There exists suspicion and distrust, hurt feelings, bruised
and bloated egos and it has been historically very hard for some of us
to put these aside. If the ones that are currently taking the lead (or
perhaps it is better phrased: 'in positions of responsibility') can't
individually change their perspective and come to an agreement that
allows them to define and work on common goals, nothing will ever change
for the better.
My love for LFS has motivated me (despite my frustration at times with
the poor leadership) to jump in and help keep the ball rolling where I
can. Unfortunately, many times, my efforts have been perceived by some
as being either a play for more power or personal glory or something of
the kind. I find myself at the center of a conflict that I really want
nothing to do with. I also realize that this rift is bigger than just
me. For example, Greg and Ryan need to work out their differences - and
that rift goes back years. I know Greg was asked to leave LFS a long
time ago, before my time, even, but I would be happy to see him back
working more directly with LFS - if only he cultivated a little more
tact and respect for others involved in the project.
Anyway, as far as I am concerned, I would be glad to give up any commit
privileges I have in the projects and work only from the sidelines if it
would help remove the rift and get people working together.
