Damn Greg, did they piss in your Cheerios or what?  Just as you did, the 
CLFS group did not like the goals, nor the direction that LFS was taking 
and they went and did their own thing that met their goals, as Ryan had 
mentioned previously, continuing where the lfs-hackers list left off.  
Whether it is a fork is really irrelevant at this point, but for the 
record, CLFS *is* a fork.  That said, is a fork really so bad?  It might 
have been more disheartening if they had copied the book and called it 
"J&R's BYOL" or something to that effect (sorry if I've missed anyone 
who was part of the original CLFS core team at the time of the split), 
but they didn't.  They attempted to keep it under the LFS name and at 
least pay tribute to its roots.

CLFS and LFS have had our differences in the past, and will probably 
continue to at times, but the various LFS camps should try to work 
together as much as possible for the common goal.  I'm not sure where 
that puts DIY, but I'd like to include you as well, though you probably 
benefit the least since you typically forge ahead on your own.  On that 
note, your input has been very valuable, and I'd like to again say thank 
you for all your help in getting 6.3 out the door. 

Though you do pretty damn well with your group, it is due mostly to your 
own dedication to DIY.  LFS and CLFS are short on people who want and/or 
have the time to do the work.  I'd like to be able to forge a working 
relationship between all like groups so that we can continue to feed 
from each other, no matter how little or great that benefit that may 
prove to be. 

Directed comments like the one above do a lot more damage than the idea 
of CLFS 'competing' with LFS.  Take SM or Gentoo as an example.  They 
are direct competitors, if there is such a thing in Open Source.  I've 
recently had the pleasure of working with one of the SM devs through the 
Mozilla products, and he even sub'd to BLFS-dev to post his comments in 
the ongoing thread.  In the past, we've had the assistance of Debian 
maintainers, Gentoo devs, and even the Redhat guys and gals.  All have 
been great to work with...it is just the nature of open source.  Please 
try to keep this in mind in the future.
