 I've already sent a follow-up to my terse original reply -
unfortunately, my mail seems to have been a bit delayed this
afternoon.  Again, thanks for your report.

 And no, I doubt any of us have any leverage on the weird things
that any of the distros do - that's one of the reasons for choosing
to build our own.
