It can't be outside this partition. With RPM, this is typically 
/var/tmp/pkgname-root/ , and with dpkg, this is always the `pwd`/debian/tmp 
directory.

And the fix is to patch perl, see how Debian does this (completely untested, 
likely not directly applicable to LFS, you probably need only a subset of this)
