I've been putting the DESTDIR directory as a subdirectory of the
root of the build tree. I only did that so when I remove the build
tree after installation, the DESTDIR directory is removed as well.
But it could be anywhere.
In fact, I disagree with Alex in that it cannot be outside the
active (chrooted) partition. Nothing keeps one from mounting any
partition and using it while in Chapter 6 chroot.
