Apologies, I thought lfs-dev was the place for discussing defects in the 
development version of the book and lfs-support was for released versions.

The mailing list page says:
   "The lfs-support list is the place to get help following the instructions
in the STABLE release of LFS..."

Regardless, I'll redirect my query there after I've more information to
share.
