vcs problem

I've built my LFS-6.0 system but when I try to boot it, it seems to go
into an endless cycle like this:

May 25 13:16:40 www udev[548]: removing device node '/dev/vcs1'
May 25 13:16:40 www udev[547]: creating device node '/dev/vcsa1'
May 25 13:16:40 www udev[550]: removing device node '/dev/vcsa1'
May 25 13:16:40 www udev[549]: creating device node '/dev/vcs1'
May 25 13:16:40 www udev[552]: removing device node '/dev/vcs1'
May 25 13:16:40 www udev[551]: creating device node '/dev/vcsa1'
May 25 13:16:40 www udev[554]: removing device node '/dev/vcsa1'
May 25 13:16:40 www udev[553]: creating device node '/dev/vcs1'
May 25 13:16:40 www udev[555]: creating device node '/dev/vcsa1'

The rest of the boot seems to go okay, to judge from the logs, and the
kernel will boot on my LFS-5.1 system.

I gather vcs(a) relates to virtual consoles, which I didn't create on my
LFS-5.1 system, so could I just turn this off if I knew how?

I kept my kernel configuration as similar as I could to the one I was
using for LFS-5.1/kernel-2.4. Some of the parameters are as follows,
though I can't find all of these in 'make menuconfig' and can't seem to
find out just what they do. (Is there a good site that explains all these?)

# Character devices
CONFIG_VT=y
CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_HW_CONSOLE=y
# Console display driver support
CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=y
# CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE is not set

Also, with this kernel I don't get any on-screen messages during boot, on
either system.
