GCC bootstrap failure

 The expected cause is bad RAM.  At one time I remember people having to
use 'make bootstrap4' which adds a fourth compile before doing the
comparison, although I've never really understood where this would be
appropriate.

 Another cause would be a broken or missing 'cmp' program.
